Students progress at different rates

My 8th grade students have been working independently for several weeks to develop their virtual French student identity.  We have set up a scenario where they live in a student apartment building in the southern French city of Aix-en-Provence.   As they were working on their 4th ‘aventure’, I started filming and interviewing them without any preparation on their part.  I had simply announced that I would capture a video snapshot of where they were in the acquisition process.

I’ve uploaded some of these videos on this google document.

Here is one of the best female student, Eva C.  She’s been with me from the beginning in French 6,  2 ½ years so far.  The students had no prep, this was done on the spur of the moment.

Next comes James P – one of the two best male students who also has been with me for 2 1/2 years

Sofia F has also been with the class since the beginning.  She is not as strong a student as Eva or James.  But that is normal.  Each person acquires language at different rates.  The rapidity depends on factors such as desire and ability to pay attention with the intent to learn.
